Crafting Resources

I enjoy staying busy. I tend to do something “creative” everyday. Well, I’m a teacher, so that is in my job description. But, as a therapy, it is nice as well. My first craft was cross-stitching, and then grew into sewing, even though my mother was very concerned that I would sew my finger because she had sewed hers as a kid and grew to hate it. Thankfully, I got the sewing gene from my paternal grandmother and I have made many different projects in my day. I tend to stick with quilts and projects that I can do in a short time because my attention tends to fade fairly quickly. Yes. I do have quite the pile of UFO’s (unfinished objects) in my craft room.

Last year, I delved into embroidery, since I bought an Brother SE 1800 Embroidery/Sewing Machine combo. I have a small craft area, so I don’t have room for multiple machines. I enjoy doing that, but I need to have a specific project in mind for that machine to come out. Patches tend to be my highest request.

This year, for Christmas, I asked for a Cricut Explore 2. I wanted to be able to cut fabric on it for my sewing projects. This beast has opened my eyes to a world of possibilities that is almost overwhelming. I am the type of person who can take someone’s idea and tweak it, just a little, to make it my own. I’m still working on developing some original ideas. After all, teachers are the best thieves! In looking for ideas, I stumbled upon a video for jennifermaker.com. The first thing that I appreciated about this site was that she is not a skinny, model like host who I feel like I have to live up to. My first thought was “FINALLY!!! Someone like me!” She comes across as a friend, who has a glass of wine to be able to get her through her project, and she will hold my hand through the project. If you haven’t checked out her videos and projects, go there now. There are many things for free, which a great place to start! She has how to videos and can get your sparks flying!

Happy Crafting! J
